Makhaya Ntini (R) celebrates a dismissal South African fast bowler Morne Morkel made a double breakthrough as Bangladesh failed to take advantage of a solid start on the first day of the second and final Test against South Africa at Centurion Park Wednesday. Bangladesh were 64 for three at lunch. Morkel dismissed Tamim Iqbal for 31 and Bangladesh captain Mohammad Ashraful for one in successive overs. He could have had another wicket immediately before lunch when Junaid Siddique was dropped on 19 by wicketkeeper Mark Boucher, diving in front of first slip. The start of the Bangladesh innings was in sharp contrast to a woeful batting effort in the first Test in Bloemfontein where the tourists were beaten by an innings and 129 runs. Iqbal and Imrul Kayes were disciplined and patient in putting on 25 in an hour for the first wicket after Ashraful won the toss and decided to bat. The stand was ended when Kayes edged a lifting delivery from Makhaya Ntini to South African captain Graeme Smith at first slip. Ntini bowled an immaculate line in taking one for three in eight overs. Iqbal and Siddique added another 29 for the second wicket and were looking capable until Morkel produced a superb delivery which left Iqbal off the pitch and provided an easy catch for Boucher. Morkel failed to hold a sharp return catch from Siddique but in the same over Ashraful pushed the ball back to the bowler who made no mistake with his second offering. | Scoreboard | | | | Bangladesh first innings | | | | Tamim Iqbal | c Boucher b Morkel | 31 | | Imrul Kayes | c Smith b Ntini | 6 | | Junaid Siddique | not out | 21 | | Mohammad Ashraful | c and b Morkel | 1 | | Mehrab Hossain | not out | 1 | | Extras | (lb1, nb3) | 4 | | Total | (3 wkts, 27 overs) | 64 | | Fall of wkts | 1-25, 2-56, 3-57 | | | Bowling | | | | Steyn 6-3-18-0, Ntini 8-5-3-1, Kallis 3-1-6-0, Zondeki 5-1-16-0, Morkel 5-0-20-2 (3nb) | | |
